The Philippines Appeal

Aftermath of Typhoon Sendong
Typhoon Sendong hit the Philippines the week before Christmas

We have just donated £1600 in response to the most recent appeal from Disaster Aid UK & Ireland to help with the aftermath of Typhoon Sendong in the Philippines.

Tents in the Philippines

Typhoon Sendong hit the Philippines the week before Christmas causing a torrent of mud and water to flood from the uplands to the coastal regions. According to a recent National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report, as at 2.00pm on 27 December, the death toll nationwide arising from this typhoon in Northern Mindanao was 1,249 with 84 missing; 4,594 injured; 12,805 houses totally damaged and 29,520 partially damaged.

Disaster Aid International deployed its Disaster Aid Response Team (DART) to the area on New Year's Eve to gather intelligence and assess needs.

The donation from Poynton & District Rotary Club will fund a school station in the disaster-struck area. The school typically contains four modular tents that are able to be linked together, an umbrella canopy, blackboards and school supplies for 80 children and their teachers.
