The Aimée Drew Trust
In October, our club was pleased to donate £1500 to the Aimée Drew Trust.
The donation was by way of a token of appreciation from the Rotary Club of Poynton & District for Ian Drew's services as a masterful compere in the guise of "Leroy Lurve" at the annual charity concert held in June this year and for the entertainment provided by his wife Joanne, who, as Georgia Holland, enthralled the audience with her wonderful singing.
Ian's daughter Aimée died some 15 years ago, aged 6, from a problem with her immune system which doctors at that time did not understand. Ian set up the Trust following her death. Since its inception the Trust has, thanks to contributions of around £115,000, been able to fund an immunology clinic and pay for services of specialist doctors and consultants. More than 350 children, some very seriously ill, have attended the clinic and been able to benefit from its expertise, services and support. Over recent years, Dr Peter Arkwright successfully treated two patients who displayed similar symptoms to Aimée and there is real hope that a cure has now been found for the condition from which she died. The clinic continues to work closely with other hospitals within the UK, as well as sharing its new-found knowledge with its counterparts in other European countries.
Ian and Joanne thanked Rotarians for the donation which will allow the Aimée Drew Trust to continue to make a difference.
