It's all about Taste Tideswell!

In October, Pete Hawkins, a resident of Tideswell in Derbyshire, came to our club to tell us all about the BIG Lottery funded initiative called Taste Tideswell promtored via Village SOS on the BBC in September this year.  For those that didn't see the programme (BBC1, 7 September), it was one of a series devoted to showcasing what UK villages can do to inspire a rural revival via community-owned enterprise.

Pete, Chairman of this social enterprise, told us its mission was to create a thriving, prosperous community sustained by its own food economy.  He went on to tell us the story of how the enerprise came about and the way in which it took shape.

At the core of the project is the Tideswell School of Food.  This school, run by professionals, is very much part of the Tideswell community.  It's a not-for-profit organization wich plows its surpluses back into its education programmes.  The school sources its ingredients locally wherever possible, employs local people and supports local commerce as much as possible.

The Teaching Kitchen, with twelve cooking stations, is equipped with top quality domestic appliances and safe, easy-to-use equipment.  The school lets its Commercial Kitchen to start-up food businesses and caterers.

It all sounded good to us.  So whether you are looking to improve your skills or simply have some fun (corporate, group or individual) in  a relaxed and informal atmosphere, perhaps you should think about enrolling on one of the school's hugely varied cookery or brewing courses.  Unleash your culinary creativity, oo-er!
