Brass & Queen Charity Concert 2011

"Wow! What an amazing concert - we so, so enjoyed it!",

"Great gig . . . . just fantastic!".

These were some of the many generous and enthusiastic words of appreciation from those attending Poynton Rotary Club's annual charity concert held on a fine evening in Poynton Park on Saturday 11 June.

This year, the family event attracted more than 3000 people and with the income from the sale of tickets and the support of its sponsors and helpers, the event raised over £18000! The headline act was QEII, a Queen tribute band with a brilliant Mark Sanders playing Freddie Mercury, who got the crowd dancing and singing along to some of Queen's greatest hits.

The audience was also treated to the fantastic voice of guest star Paul Pashley. Paul is a prince of swing who thrilled the spectators, rounding off with an impassioned performance of a song Gary Barlow wrote especially for him. And, as usual, the Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band was there. The band is a regular feature of the annual concert and has entertained us every year over the six years the event has taken place so far.

Thanks to those who supported the event, the income generated means the club can continue to contribute to worthy local causes and community projects that have trouble generating sufficient support for themselves.

On behalf of all Poynton Rotarians we would like to thank you, the people of Poynton and beyond, so much for your wonderful support. We hope to see you again next year!
