Poynton Heritage - Garden Project
The project has three local Rotarians leading the way to transform a currently unattended piece of ground in front of the Civic centre and Library. It is involving Volunteer groups like Poynton in Bloom, Men in Sheds, Poynton High School, Poynton Parish Plan Group, Library staff, Poynton Agricultural Society, Anson Museum as well as individual local contributions for the design.
The complete project involves an enlarged area of planting on a raised bed and the area will be transformed with seating and planters. The walls of the Library and part of the Civic Centre will be used to reflect Poynton’s Heritage by means of architectural sculptures in relief. The old library entrance will become an artistic pallet.
The final costing is £18,000 and so far has been financially supported by grants from Poynton Rotary Club, Rotary District Grant, Cheshire East Council and Poynton Town Council.
Further grants have been applied for from Veolia Environmental Trust, Skipton Building Society, Carillion (SEMMS By Pass ), Greggs Foundation and Sharing Heritage Fund. Grant applications are being handled by another Voluntary Group ‘Projects for Poynton’.
Currently the artistic impressions of before and after are on display in the Civic Centre and Library attracting many favourable comments from the public.
